No Buying A New Round of Laptops
The next generation of Windows is expected to place an increasing emphasis on Neural Processing Units (NPUs), specialized processors designed to accelerate Microsoft's CoPilot artificial-intelligence workloads. Microsoft already requires a 40+ TOPS NPU for its Copilot+ PC classification and a number of advanced Windows AI features. This NPU will be required to run the next version of Windows itself, businesses should be prepared for increasingly demanding AI-related hardware requirements.
NPU-equipped Windows PCs only began entering the mainstream business market in 2024. As a result, businesses may have hundreds or even thousands of perfectly functional computers purchased before the current AI-PC generation that do not contain a modern NPU.
If future versions of Windows impose NPU-dependent requirements, ThinkByte Studio's goal would be to provide a legally compliant and technically supported configuration that allows compatible organizations to disable unnecessary NPU-dependent functionality while continuing to use their existing computers wherever Microsoft licensing, security requirements, and technical compatibility permit.
